Middle school wins second straight title
The Foxboro Middle School hockey team recently won their second consecutive
divisional title. The team defeated Swansea in the divisional finals via a
hard-fought, 2-1 overtime shootout victory.
After a five minute overtime period the game was still tied, forcing a shootout. The two shootout goals were scored by Connor Lynch and Liam Feeney. Regulation finished in a 1-1 tie with the team's lone goal being scored at the five-minute mark of the third period by Feeney. The keys to the victory were the solid goaltending by Luc Valenza/Melissa Almeida and overall team defense led by 8th graders Mike Maguire and Kelly Schofield as well as forwards Scott MacDonald, Sean Delaney and Ryan Morrissey. The team's goals against average for the playoff run was a solid 2.5 per game, and Valenza didn't allow a goal in the shootout. The team struggled at times during the season as a relatively young squad playing in the Division A bracket. However, their final record of 9-9-2 was enough to get them in the playoffs. The team is always on the lookout for hockey players in Foxboro. Please contact Bill Feeney at 508-543-6064 if you have a child that will be enrolled in 6-8th grade next school year. |
